Noted producer-director JP Dutta , who has given film buffs blockbusters like Border, Refugee, LoC and Kargil, will head the feature film section jury for the National Film Awards (2010), according to sources in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The other members of the jury in this section will be actor Poonam Dhillon, singer Anuradha Paudwal and renowned ad guru, Prahlad Kakkar, the sources added.
There will be four regional juries for the feature film section in the form of Mamta Shankar, an actress from West Bengal, Revathi, a well-known Malayali actress and director representing the southern region, Chandraprakash Dwivedi, film director and writer and Neeraj Mahapatra..
These regional juries will send their entries for the awards top the central jury headed by Dutta which will make the final selection for the awards.
Although the members of the jury for the non-feature films section is yet to be final;ised, the chief of this section will be noted Marathi actor Suhasini Mulay Suhasini Mulay who won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999, for her performance in Gulzar's Hu Tu Tu..
The jury for the best writing on cinema, will be headed by well-known writer and socialite, Ashok Vajpayee, a former officer of the Indian Adminstrative Service ( IAS)..
Among those in the running for the best actors award are Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Omkardas Manikpuri , Ajay Devgun and Naseruddin Shah..
Among the films seeking the top spot are My Name Is Khan, Rajneeti, Peepli Live, Guzarish, Well Done Abba, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Tere Bin Laden., Dabang and Khele Hum Jee Jaan Say.
The Directorate of Film Festivals had, on March 18, invited entries for the awards which are presented by The President some time in October every year ever since they were incepted in 1954..
The selection of the films which will get the awards is normally done by mid-September every year after the jury views each one of the entries at special screenings.
The awards are aimed at encouraging the production of films of aesthetic and technical excellence and social relevance contributing to the understanding and appreciation of cultures of different regions of the country.
